Summertime Tips for Supple, Radiant Skin.
With summer's arrival, it's time to readjust our daily skincare regimen and spa rituals for the healthiest skin possible.
As a basic principal, summertime is the optimal time to focus on balance and healing, unlike the fall and spring months when the season's weather works with us (rather than against us) to support more assertive rejuvenative treatment outcomes.
Below are 3 steps to achieve brighter, more radiant skin this summer season:
1.Increase skin moisture. Summer heat dehydrates the skin by increasing the rate of trans epidermal water loss (dehydration), making it appear dry, lackluster, and weathered. To reduce this effect add dermaplaning and microtherapy treatments into your summertime spa rituals. Dermaplaning increases skin moisture by removing the hair so that the oil is trapped beneath the skin, resulting in a glowing appearance whether or not you choose to wear makeup! (TIP: Don't dermaplane skin that is prone to acne breakouts, as it could contribute to future breakouts). Microtherapy can support pigment management for a more even skin complexion, while stimulating collagen production for skin that has a youthful plumpness. The products you combine with your spa facial treatments can boost your results further. Try combining your Microtherapy and Dermaplaning treatments with Flawless Brightening Complex for a more even skin tone, and apply Honour Aqua Vitae post treatment and one time daily to nurture your DNA and extend cell life.
2.Add a vitamin C to your daily regimen. I love the Iconic Corrective C3 Peptide Complex because it is light weight and can be used on the eyelids, reducing the amount of time and products I have to put on to my skin in the mornings. Also, it's ability to hydrate the skin comes from a process whereby a peptide contained in the formulation stimulates the production of your own hyaluronic acid moisture production!
3.Stock up on a physical sun block to protect your skin from UV damage and apply it to your face, neck, chest and hands daily, whether or not you'll be enjoying the pool or beach. Honour Ultimate DNA Defense SPF 30 should be applied each morning (under makeup or alone), and provides the highest form of natural protection (zinc oxide) against solar damage, environmental aging and DNA damage; and when reapplied during outdoor exercise or activity.
How Much Sunscreen Should I Use, and How Often Should I Reapply it?
The American Academy of Dermatology has provided us with the following guideline:
•Use enough sunscreen to generously coat all skin that will be not be covered by clothing. Ask yourself, “Will my face, ears, arms or hands be covered by clothing?” If not, apply sunscreen. Most people only apply 25-50 percent of the recommended amount of sunscreen.8
•Follow the guideline of “1 ounce, enough to fill a shot glass,” which dermatologists consider the amount neededto cover the exposed areas of the body. Adjust the amount of sunscreen applied depending on your body size.
•Apply sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes BEFORE going outdoors.
•Skin cancer also can form on the lips. To protect your lips, apply a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
•Reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours, or after swimming or sweating, according to the directions on the bottle.
